Number format

Hi

I'm hoping someone can help me before I pull out all of my hair!

When I begin a new workbook and enter a number it converts it to 0.0?

example - I type 1 and I get 0.01

I have tried selecting the whole worksheet and going to format - cells - number and selecting general, but I still get 0.01 when I type 1

What have I done!

I'm sure I am going to feel really foolish when someone comes back and tells me what I've done wrong.

Welcome to the board...

Go to Tools - Options - Edit
UNcheck "Fixed Decimal Places"

In Excel 2007...
Excel Options, Advanced, Make sure Automatically insert a decimal point is not checked...
