Number formating/scaling

I am trying to scale my numbers on a ratio-type scale. For example:

scale the number 100,000 to be seen as 100.
scale the number 566,978 to be seen as 567.


If anyone knows anything, please help. This is for work and no one knows how to do it!

If I follow you correctly select the cells, right click on format, choose custom and type 0, in the Type: box.

I suppose it depends if the numbers are always in hundreds of thousands, one way you could it is:-

=ROUND(A1*POWER(10,-3),0)

Where A1 is you original number and and -3 converts hundreds of thousands down to hundreds.

Suppose this is one of those problems there are many answers to

Is it random, by that I mean you have no idea if the number will in the hundreds of thousands or millions?

yes, it is random, the examples I gave are normal however I may get a figure that will be 750 or one that is 13453444.
