# Numbers in Tolerance Dilemma

Hello
I need to show graphically the dimension (Dim) in Tolerance span (between –Tol and +Tol).
Here is the example what I am trying to accomplish in column E.
A B C D E
1 Dim + Tol - Tol Out of Tol
2 0.02 1.00 -1.00 >------*------<
3 0.89 1.00 -1.00 >----------*--<
4 -0.89 1.00 -1.00 >--*----------<
5 1.32 1.00 -1.00 0.32

I will have hundreds of rows with this type of information.
I am stuck. I don’t know how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

John

### Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
You have 13 characters between the the greater than and less than signs, either hyphens or an asterisk, what is the calculation for where that asterisk goes?

I do not have the calculation and I do not know how to do it.
And that is my dilemma.

John

It is tough to tell where your column breaks are, but if 0.02, 0.89, -0.89, and 1.32 are in column A and the >----< stuff is in column D, then try:

D1 =SUBSTITUTE(">"&REPT("-",13)&"<","-","*",ROUND(7+(A3/B3)*5,0))

and copy D1 down.

Thanks for your help. I modified a bit your formula and works like a charm. here you have my final:

=SUBSTITUTE(">" & REPT("-",13) & "<","-","*",ROUND((13-1)*(A1-B1)/(C1-B1)+1,0))

Thanks a bunch
