I have a cell range that calculates numeric values, how do I interpret the numeric value into a alpha value, with multiple conditions.

here is the range:

if(Cell value) is equal or greater then 8.5 then A,
and
if (Cell value) is greater then or equal to 7.5 and less then or equal to 8.0 then B.
and
if (Cell value) is greater then or equal to 6.5 and less then or equal to 7.0 then C.
and
if (Cell value) is less then or equal to 6.0 then D.

I have just registered to this website and currently searching the anals for a like solution; if someone can help, I would be very greatful,

thanks, Jim B

If your data has zip codes, postal codes, or city names, select the data and use Insert, 3D Map. (Found to right of chart icons).

Your question is a little vague, and your ranges dont meet. What happens if you have a value between 8.0 and 8.5? is it an A or B???

Here is a stab at something that might point you in the right direction at least:

=IF(A1>=8.5,"A",IF(A1>=7.5,"B",IF(A1>=6.5,"C","D")))

This looks like a grading question. A method is allow for the maximums, then to use the "CHAR" value for the rest:

=IF(A2>=8.5,"A",IF(A2<6,"D",CHAR(74-ROUND(A2,0))))

If you want a "+" for the values you missed (such as B+), use:

=IF(A2>=8.5,"A",IF(A2<6,"D",CHAR(74-ROUND(A2,0))))& IF(AND(MOD(A2,1)>0,MOD(A2,1)<0.5),"+","")

=VLOOKUP(D44,{0,"D";6.1,"C";6.5,"C";7.1,"B";7.5,"B";8,"B";8.5,"A"},2)

this solution works very well, thanks to this forum, thanks for your help; I do have another question posted today, if anyone could help,,

thanks
