Object trouble

I've got a problem with objects in an earlier version of Excel.

I've made an invoice with an object on top of some of the cells, with no fill. It is basically just a box with some lines to make the invoice more pretty.

In Excel 2007, I can click any of the cells "underneath" this object, and edit away to my heart's content..

Now, I protect the sheet, enabling only access to unlocked cells. I lock all images, objects and other cells.

Now I can't click the object anymore, I just get to click the cells. This is my intent. It works.

Problem:

I want to use this sheet in an earlier version of Excel (for a friend who doesnt have 2007 version). When I open it, and click my mouse on the cells"beneath" the object, nothing happens.

I have to click somewhere outside the object, and using the keyboard arrow keys, manually move down to the cells to get to make an input. This is incredibly annoying, and I've no idea why this older version (2003) of Excel refuses to leave the object alone. I can sort of select the object (despite it being locked), but can do nothing with it, yet it hinders my mouse access to everything underneath it.

I've tried the "Push it behind" option and it still wants to select this object whenever I click.

Can anyone help?

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
