Excel Can Read to You
Customize Quick Access Toolbar. From All Commands, add Speak Cells or Speak Cells on Enter to QAT. Select cells. Press Speak Cells.
Nope, altho there are 3rd party (ie paid for) add-ins that can reproduce the old style interface. No idea how good these are though - sometimes you'll see them advertised in the main advertising banner at the top right of MrExcel.com.

Thanks for that info.

Excel is wonderfull but I really don't understand why MS thinks that users have a LOT of time to master a new package.

I really hope these core changes are worthwhile because they only seem to be Corporate Mission Jerk Wournd to me.

The official line is that "the amount of menu options has become to vast for simple pull-downs." This is a valid point as software is only going to get bigger and bigger, so new ways of accessing menu options [if this is even the right trem or not] must be explored. The ribbon may not be the solution, but it is clear that pull-down have become too limited for the big packages.
