Office 2010 compatability with 2007

I work as a consultant using a Samsung netbook. My current client expects me to have Micorsoft Professional/Ultimate and Professional Office software. However, he is specifically asking that I do NOT install Office 10 because their invoicing/expenses process uses Excel 2003/2007 and that 2010 would not be compatible. I know there are a few macros in the input form. I have asked them about work arounds and the option to 'save files as' 2007 or 2003 compatible. The IT guy is insisting on installation of 2007. Is he right?
P.S. Apologies if there is already a thread with this query - I'm new here!

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
Hi Clangs

As already mentioned via email (which I cannot access I'm afraid when I'm at work) it's difficult when the question has such a wide scope: it would be easier for us given specific code that eg the IT guy says would be incompatible and then we can comment.

In general, if the workbooks are compatible between 2003 and 2007 then I wouldn't foresee many problems with using 2010 instead (and saving under the old file formats).

Richard, thank you for this and the earlier email. Obviously this is a chicken-egg question because I cannot provide detail without first purchasing Office 2010 at ~£350 to establish exactly what the error is. On digging I did find a similar thread and subsequently quite complicated replies. See 536321 - link below. I am loathe to contradict the IT guy but equally do not want to waste my money. Perhaps I should go for a free trial of 2010 from Microsoft?
