Hi all,

I have an excel spreadsheet with cell that have data validation using lists.

Out IT department has been upgrading all our office packages to 2010
and my data validation got all messed up.

I am trying to fix the spreadsheet but now the one cell there is one of those little drop down arrow but it is a little darker than the one I normally have when having the drop down validation. and does not seem to go away even it the cell it not selected. it has not list or any associated to it. can someone tell me how to get rid of this

Excel Facts

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
It sounds like it turned into a combo box. If that's the case you should be able to select it if you hold ctrl and then right click on the box, then hit the delete key.

If that's not the case then I have no idea.
Strange that it changed it in the first place. If that's not the answer, what shows as validation (if anything) now?

Hope it helps, gl!

Hi Cease,

I thought along that line as well but no I tried ctrl and clicking on it but cannot select it, all I can do is click on it and it comes up with one empty line and that is all that I can do with it.

I originall thought my document had got corrupted but I have a backup copy and when trying this it did the same thing and as well it has happened to other ppls computers.

I really do not understand this

Try clicking it and maybe the cells surrounding that cell as well, on the home ribbon click the eraser, then click clear all. You will have to put the DV list back in place if your data relies on it though and reformat any cells that lost data and formatting as a result of doing the Clear All

Maybe you can copy everything else from the sheet, and paste using paste special, formats, then pastespecial formulas?

Don't know if that's plausible with the sheet. Crazy you can't get rid of the arrow.

I have already done that. I decided to make a new sheet and using the old sheet for the validation and formulas.

I just curious now what is going on here
