I have an associate who has not lost the habit of entering formulas starting with "+". Of course excel handles that fine. However, if he enters...

+.25+23/16 it yields the result 1.6875 which is correct.

When I do it I get the same result but my formula is adjusted to...

=.25+23/16 while his is adjusted to...

=.25+1.4375

If the denominator is not at normal imperial inch fraction, it is not changed to a decimal value.

My question is what setting decides if a common fraction is reduced to a decimal?

Excel Facts

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
That adjustment should only happen (I think) if the cell is formatted as a fraction.

Good thought. I'll check his cell formats, but I thought he could repeat it on a new worksheet in random cells. I'll post back what I find. Thanks.

As far as I know, none of the Transition options would cause that, so I can only think it's a formatting issue.
