I have XP. I am trying to track my stocks. I have a column where I add the lastest stock quote (price per share) each month, with January on the top going down to December. At the bottom of the column. Below that I have a cell (where I guess a total would normally be) that I want the last stock quote entered to be reflected.

My question is; as I add a new stock quote each month, how do I get only this last entry in the colum to be recorded at the bottom of the column also?

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
You could use the INDIRECT function. Let's say you have stock prices starting in cell A1 and going through A7. You want the most recent price (in A7) to show up in cell A32. The the formula in cell A32 could be...

Code:
=INDIRECT("A"&COUNT(A1:A31))

Of course, you will need to adapt this to your own data.

Try the following in the cell where you want the last numeric entry...

=LOOKUP(9.99999999999999E+307,OFFSET(INDEX(A:A,1),0,0,ROW()-1))

Adjust the column to suit...

Thank you for your input, no luck so far.

Here is some additional information that may help.

The column I'm in is D
Jan is on row 58 with a stock quote of 1.87 in cell D58
Feb is on row 59 with a stock quote of 2.00 in cell D59
Mar is on row 60 with a stock quote of 2.28 in cell D60
Apr is on row 61 with a stock quote of 2.63 in cell D61
Dec is on row 69
The cell I want the last number entered to reflect in is D71

So cell D71 should be reflecting 2.63 as the last number to date.

This is what your formula looked like when I tried it
=LOOKUP(9.99999999999999E+307,OFFSET(INDEX(D58:D69,1),0,0,ROW()-1))
I saw 1.06 in cell D71 which is where I put the formula

This is what your formula looked like when I tried it
=INDIRECT("D"&COUNT(D58:D69))
I didn't see anything in cell D71, which is where I put the formula.

So obviously, I am doing something wrong. Maybe with this additional information you can
give me more quidance. I sure appreciate your help.

Try...

D71:

=LOOKUP(9.99999999999999E+307,OFFSET(D58,0,0,ROW()-ROW(D58)))

=LOOKUP(9.99999999999999E+307,OFFSET(D58,0,0,MIN(ROW()-ROW(D58))))

which is a kosher version of the first.
