Hello all!

I am a very experience IT application and hardware engineer. Well I thought I was until I came across this problem

I have a user on a work network who was working on a spreadsheet (stored on a network shared area) when it crashed.

Since then only she cannot access the worksheet. All other people can access the same worksheet.

This is driving me crazy. This is what I know so far.

-There are no viruses
-All other user can access the file on the shared area from her machine.
-Excel works fine.
-I have rebuilt and reinstalled all the software she had.
-When the workbook is not shared, she can open the worksheet.
-The moment it is shared the spreadsheet freezes and then bring ups "windows excel needs to close........and there is a repair option for the file which makes you go through this twice"
-Once the repair is complete the file doesnt look normal
-The problem follows the user..in other words no matter what computer she uses to access the spreadsheet on the shared area, she always gets the freezing then repair message.

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
Re: Only one user cannot access a shared workbook!

I forgot to add....

-She gets a Microsoft Error Signature<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

AppName:excel.exe AppVer: 11.0.6355.0 AppStamp: 40aa979f
ModName: excel.exe ModVer: 11.0.6355.0 ModStamp: 40aa979f
fDebug: 0 Offset: 0002d2df

-I have noticed the when the creator of the spreadsheet views current people using the spreadsheet, it shows the girl with the problem. Excel seems to think that the girl is using the spreasheet even when is she not.

-It is like the spreadsheet is locked in state whereby the spreadsheet thinks she is using it when she isnt.

Whoever can solves this is really a genius coz its got everyone going crazy

Try to create new file, copy everything from this spreadsheet and open new file. May be this will help.

Mr Brains, have you tried deleting the current profile and creating a new profile for that girl on windows ? Try it, :)

Hi all thank you for your replies

-I have tried to recreate a fresh profile but that didnt help
-I havent tried copy 'n pasting the contents of the spreadsheet and calling something else - so may try that.

What happens when another user removes that user from the workbook - well she still has the same problem.

Someone has mentioned lock files. I wonder if removing the user from the workbook, and then restarting the machine (to unlock any files) may help.

Assuming you know all the usual warnings about Shared Workbooks already, have you tried:
1. Have all users except one close the workbook.
2. Have that one user ensure all other users are deleted from the list of people using the workbook.
3. Have that user change the access for the workbook to disallow multiple users making changes.
4. Save, close and re-open.
5. Re-allow multiple users changing the workbook simultaneously.
6. See if the problem user can now use the workbook.
If not, I would agree that rebuilding the workbook is the way to go.
