Opening A File

When I double click on a file from a shortcut or Windows explorer I get a message that the file is already open etc.

I don't get this when I open from inside Excel.

I'm not on a network.

No big problem, but annoying.

Excel Facts

Do you hate GETPIVOTDATA?
Prevent GETPIVOTDATA. Select inside a PivotTable. In the Analyze tab of the ribbon, open the dropown next to Options and turn it off
First things first,

is it on a network that someone else may have access to and have it open?

Second thing can you open it from Excel or does the problem go that far?

Next thing to try would be to open it as a copy then check it's not got anything running in the startup area. If so ID the problem, disable / delete the macro (Save a notepad copy) then save OVER the original.

Not a lot I know but it's a starting place.

The next place to look is at registry calls but I'm not even going to go there!
