Each time I open Excel, I get a pop up box saying "Excel code.doc:: file format is not valid".

Important to note, this happends BOTH when I just open Excel, and when I double click to open a file. (internet hits only discuss the format of the excel file I'm trying to open, not when just opening Excel)

After I click OK, I can proceed on and so far I haven't seen any problems with any workbooks, or VBA code, but Ihaven't put it throught and hard tasks yet. I'm using office 2016 Professional Plus.

Anyone else seen this and has information to fix.

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
It sounds like you have a word document in one of your startup folders (either one of the two XLSTART folders, or any additional folder you have designated)

Solution
Thanks Rory!!! That was it! Some how a word document got saved in there by accident (don't know how that could have happend, but there it was.

When I started with excel, I created a word document with code snippets and explinations on how they worked to learn.

Rookie mistake.

Thanks again
Mark
