Hiya Folks

Quick question.... would anyone have any idea why when trying to open an excel file through windows explorer or my computer, it wont open, but if i go into excel and open that way it works fine?

I have checked file associations and its all set-up correctly...

Any ideas would be welcomed...

Nattie

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
what does it say when you try opening through Explorer?

(I had a similar problem the other day but discovered the error was in my profile and DDE settings).

didn't realise this was such a common problem - I spent a WHILE collaborating with IT trying to fix this...

The error I located in the registry was to do with the DDE line - opening files...

should read:

"Options"=dword:00000157

as opposed to the incorrect setting of:

"Options"=dword:00000117

check yours using the above link to give you the path to your registry settings etc and let us know if you fixed this.

Point of this message is to say that you do not necessarily need to reset your entire registry tot he default settings and thus lose all your default settings, add-ins etc.
