Opening local files in Office 365 On-Line

When I am logged into my office 365 subscription (on-line) I cannot seem to open local files. I have to constantly upload to OneDrive and then open. However, when I just launch Excel locally from the downloaded and installed option I can open files. The problem is I have to login twice to use the file. Once to login normally and then again to activate. I find this annoying as hell, am I doing something wrong or is there a fix for this?

Thank you.
