Opening multiple worksheets on the same workbook

We're using MS Office 2013 and Windows 8. Every time we open a new excel file, it opens to a new workbook. It would be nice if we have the option to open a file on the same workbook (to easily put them side-by-side) or open it on a different workbook.

We prefer to have the files look like this:

Excel files open in SDI mode in Excel 2013, meaning that they are separate windows.
Hence, aligning like you want will not be easy. What I normally do is, make a window not maximized, and drag and drop the title bar to the right (or left) until you hit the side of your screen.
At that moment, Windows will present the window in the right half of the window. Repeat for a second file, drag and drop to the left half of the window.
