 Ok here goes....

i have an extensive sheet with about 220 pages in it (page breaks )
here is the thing, when i add a new page into it i have to manually go re-number all the following pages. ( big shlep !)

a.s.a.p utilities has a info tool that will tell you on wich page number your cell is,
Now my question is :
Is there a macro or formula or script that will lookup the page number automatically ?

Not everything I do at work revolves around Excel. Only the fun parts.
I have done some work on this but need to know exactly what you are trying to do.

Don't understand ...............

Does it mean you put page numbers into a worksheet ?
If so, how can we tell where they are ?

My guess is that it will be easier to have a macro number all the pages each time if that is what you want.

It's one continuous sheet.
the page breaks (page break preview ) set the pages. i have a footer that prints the concurrent page numkbers. what i need is a macro that will put into a cell the page number according to that page break.

ok here goes, 1st page break is the index page right the next break is then the first "item " in the book. at the end of my book there is an adendum wich in this case tells the reader exactly on wich page item 1 is. in some cases there are more than one item per page.

this is where i have to manually sit and enter page numbers for all the items.

So you are making a sort if index.

I have a macro that lists the range of each printable page using Vertical & horizontal page break positions.

What we need is a macro to look up each item in your list, find it on the sheet, then get the page number from the item cell reference.

Doesn't seem much of a problem now:eek:

What sort of list of items is the index ? How many ?
Might be best for me to output as a 2 column lookup table. "Item" - "Page Number" if your index is at all complicated.
