Happy day!!

Please help:
How can I parse this data to return only the start date?
Start Date 4/17/06 End Date 8/30/06

For example, I need to grab 4/17/06

Thx a googolplex!!!

Hi Miss and welcome to the board.

Does your text always begins with "Start Date "? then this will be quite easy:

=MID(A1,12,8)

No, I am trying to fix someone's strange thought of entering that format. I plan to recommend to setting a column for Start Date and End Date.
It is so simple and logical to do it this way. Do you agree?

Thx....thx...

This one converts the date from text back into an actual date so you can use it in calculations. It also allows for different date formats. i.e 10/14/2006 You will need to format the cell the formula is in as a date.

ABCDE
1Start Date 4/17/06 End Date 8/30/064/17/06
2Start Date 10/17/06 End Date 8/30/0710/17/06
3Start Date 10/17/2006 End Date 8/30/0810/17/06

Hi Miss Exel:

And in addition to babycody's fine contribution, you may simply use ...

=LEFT(MID(A1,12,26),8)
