Hi All,

I have a URL in a cell, and I want to return the value in the node before the .html using an excel formula.

the last node will always be delimited as follows:

/41568362.html
-379636081.html

leading / or -
6-9 digits
.html

The .html might be followed by parameters (such as ?absrc=rdm)

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

Eric

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
Perhaps some additional information might get some responses.

I have tried this formula:

=RIGHT(A2,LEN(A2)-SEARCH("/",A2,SEARCH("/",A2,SEARCH("/",A2,1)+1)+1))
this is the / version

Returns:
category/2113527.html

<tbody>
</tbody>

=RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-SEARCH("-",A1,SEARCH("-",A1,SEARCH("-",A1,1)+1)+1))
This is the - version

Returns:
category-detail-214187831.html

<tbody>
</tbody>

I am not sure how to modify these formulas so that they only bring back the number portion

As always, help is greatly appreciated.

Eric
