partial trendline......

Hi,

I have a load / deflection curve for a steel section. I need to find the slope of the first portion of the chart. i know that i can do this by creating a seperate data series - limited to these data points in the range and then adding a trendline to that series.

is there another way of limiting the trendline to a certain number of data points without having to add this additional series??? I am happy to use VBA if necessary.

If all you wwant is the slope (of a straight line), why not use the Slope() function? Either way, you can use the Offset() function to define which portion of the data to use for generating your results.

No, a trendline cannot be limited to a subset of the dataset (well, unless you use a moving average line but that doesn't provide any usable coefficients).

Shouldn't be a big deal adding the limited number of data points as a 2nd series. You can always "hide" this series by making all associated elements transparent.
