i'm back again after a successful answer yesterday. Now I want to protect my file because the info in it is confidential. But I don't want to use the worksheet protection feature under tools because it never asked for the password to even open the file. I did this a long time ago, but now don't remember how to do it. Any suggestions?

Excel Facts

Create a Pivot Table on a Map
If your data has zip codes, postal codes, or city names, select the data and use Insert, 3D Map. (Found to right of chart icons).
Already read that one, but it's more complex than I'm looking for. Just want a simple password to open. But thanks!

this might be what you're looking for: select save as, from that select the tools dropdown and choose general options. there you are able to type in a password to open as well as a password to modify. hopefully this is helpful.
