I have a file which is password protected. I thought I could just copy the file as another file name and use it for a template. Can this be done?

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
OK BRian when you select any cell and press any key it pops up protected yes?

If so thats sheet potection.

ok Press CTRL+A and do that together to select all

Paste via CTRL+V in a new sheet but select cell A1 first

This will copy over data and loose formatting and back formatting but data should go

Let me know!!

Aloha Jack

I did copy and paste and it loses some formatting. I just thought there's a way to keep the same formatting etc. and lose the protection by saving as another file name. Thanks anyway Jack!

Jack,

That's OK, the worksheet was from our IT department and has macros and is password protected. One of the managers here wanted to use it as a template, but couldn't modify it. Mahalo Jack!
