Password protecting a cell

I am trying to password protect only certain cells that have formulas in them. Each time I go to protect it ends up asking for a password for the whole document. I want others to be able to type information into this document but not the cells with formulas. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
Select the cells that you don't want to protect, Format > Cells > Protection tab and untick locked. Then protect the whole sheet.

Or if there are many cells you want to leave unlocked and a relatively few you want
locked you can use the inverse of VoG II's suggestion.
Press Ctrl+A, Format > Cells > Protection tab & uncheck Locked.
Select select the cells you want locked, Format > Cells > Protection tab Locked.

Also, (just to make sure you know) you can select more than one non contiguous
cell/range by pressing Crtl when selecting.)
