Hello
I want to copy cell A1 to H1. So I copy cell A1 and went to paste it in cell H1. I saw the option "Keep source formatting".
Why we have this option? Cell A1 formatting will take over anyway if I paste it in H1, no matter how I formatted H1, A1 will take over? so this option is not necessary.

Also why these Paste options have different letters? this one has "W"

Thank you

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
Why don't you try it and see for yourself? Type a formula in a cell, change the font, cell size, back and fore colours. Copy it. Select another cell on the right hand side of the sheet (so you can see it during next step) , select the Arrow below the Paste icon on the home ribbon and hover over the different options to preview the paste.

They are all there for a reason, and they all paste in different ways.

The letters are shortcuts. Incidentally, W is to keep column widths.

Thanks for your reply. What I meant is that, I do not see any differences between "Paste (P)" and "Keep the source formatting (K)"
Thank you.
