Paste link not retaining formatting within cells

I have a workbook which is linked to a master workbook and contains formatting within cells such as bold,italic etc but only parts of the cell are formatted.

I've been trying to find out how to retain this formatting when using the paste link function but so far without any joy.

I've tried copying the formats first using pastespecial then re-copying links, that didn't work.

I need the formatting to be retained when the data is transferred into a word docvariable too.
