I am using Excel 2007 and looking for the "Paste Options" button which I can't seem to find. I need to use the "Match Destination Formatting" option that is mention in an article I saw. Could anyone tell me where I might see it! I have it ticked under Excel Options - Advanced - Show Paste Options Button.
Use Paste Options

The Paste Options button offers you the following options:
  • Keep source formatting: Preserves all original formatting of the pasted selection. Preserves all formulas as well.
  • Match destination formatting: Formats the pasted data to match the formatting already existing in the new location.
  • Values Only: This option appears only when the pasted data contains formulas. By choosing it, you strip all formulas and paste only the resulting values.

Excel Facts

How to fill five years of quarters?
Type 1Q-2023 in a cell. Grab the fill handle and drag down or right. After 4Q-2023, Excel will jump to 1Q-2024. Dash can be any character.
It should appear next to the data you pasted.

Hi Rory - thanks for that but I still can't see it! Probably being really stupid. I am presuming it is different to the Paste Special option? What you are saying is that if I copy a cell and then paste it to another cell, I should see the Paste Option Button?

Yes - a smart tag should appear next to the data you pasted (assuming you just did a Ctrl+V)

Hi Rory - Got it!! I was not aware that the small box that was coming up was in fact the Paste Options button! Sorry for my stupidity and thanks for your patience and help.

Glad to help. It would be nice if MS could keep its terminology constant... ;)
