I have a formula question regarding how to come up with an original number before 10% was subtracted from it ...

Let's say 630 is my number, I need to know what that number was prior to 10% of it being subtracted from it would have been, in this example: 700.

I'd imagine there should be an algebreic formula for this, I'm just not coming up with it at the moment.

Thanks in advance.

Excel Facts

How to find 2nd largest value in a column?
MAX finds the largest value. =LARGE(A:A,2) will find the second largest. =SMALL(A:A,3) will find the third smallest
Let's say that you have the following values in the following cells:
A1: 630
B1: 10%

Your formula to get to 700 woulds be:
=A1/(1-B1)

Hi the math behind this is

630 is 90% of the original value
Divide the 630 by 90 then multiply by 100
this can easily then be entered into Excel referencing your relevant cells.

hope that helps
