Hello,

Excel crapped out on me today.
Oddly, it deleted personal.xls.
I did a whole system search on personal.xls and I could not find it.

Also not in the directory
E:\Microsoft Office\Office10\XLStart

anyone have any idea what to do?

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
Oh yeah. When I try to create a new Personal workbook it returns the following error message.

Personal Macro Workbook in the startup folder must stay open for recording.

The only I could record/create a macro for my personal workbook was to create personal.xls in the XLstart folder. Unfortunately that workbook now opens up every time I work on other workbooks.

Any way to keep personal.xls hidden?

Hi,
Give it a try.
Go to Window in the menu and unhide.
Save the file... and reopen to see if it works.

Great !

I have downloaded a trial version of "TuneUp Utilities 2003" form www.download.com and it has option from where you can undelete your deleted files.

EXCELLENT utilities..must have.

This what the Tuneup utilities says:

File recovery & Destruction: Safety is feasible. TuneUp Shredder for example is able to delete sensitive files in a way that renders them impossible to restore. On the other hand, TuneUp Undelete can be used to restore programs that had already been deleted from the Windows Recycle Bin.

Is probable its web address
