Hi,

i have a list below as an example for my querry.

B Baseball
C Cricket
G Golf
R Rugby

i would like to have a drop down list only for the first column in such a way that the next column displays the corresponding Game, that is if i select B from the drop down, i need Baseball next to it.

please let me know if it is possible using Pick from List, something simple.

Thanks in advance,
Bhanu

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
is the drop down list a data validation list?

if so, how about an indirect function

Ok, you can use Data | Validation to create the drop down list, and then for the "result", you can use a VLOOKUP formula like this:

=VLOOKUP(Cell_with_validation_list, Range_with_both_columns, 2, 0)

Construct a two column list and name it List. In the cell where you want the drop down list to appear, click in the cell go to Data/Validation/Allow, select list/Source, enter =INDEX(LIST,0,1). In the cell next to this enter =VLOOKUP(C1,LIST,2,0). C1 being the validated cell.
