Pivot Table - AVG when grouped by date

I have a table I exported from Access to Excel containing daily precip data grouped by month (covers 21 years). I need to average this data by month and produce a corresponding chart. If I pick the avg value function it produces an incorrect result (to low) If I pick the count value I get result varying from 1071 to 1147 for each month.

What I need is an avg that divides the monthly totals (over a 21 year span) divided by the number of years (in this case 21).

Any ideas

Why can't spreadsheets drive cars? They crash too often!
After I posted this problem I read through alot of the other threads and found directions for a calculated field and that gave me what I wanted.

Hi

I've found that the average on Pivot tables counts all the rows, populated or not & this gives the incorrect average (too low) one to watch out for...

Cheers
