Pivot Table filters

Hi -

I inherited a spreadsheet that I'm trying to understand/edit. In it, there is a large table of data and a pivot table for summary. The pivot table is filtered on a column called "post date".

In the "post date" column in the data table, there appear only dates in April (4/01, 4/02, 4/03, etc) however, in the pivot table filter selection, there are many other dates (5/01, 2/05, 4/02, etc... I'm not sure where these dates are coming from. I assume they are either pulling from a list (like data validation would do) or they were set up with some sort of custom method.

Ultimately, I want the filter to only show dates included in the "post date" column in the data table. How do I do this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
A Pivot Table Filter may list values from a previous Data Set. This is controlled through the PIVOT TABLE OPTIONS... Data Tab, "Number of items to retain per field"
