I have set up a spreadsheet with formulas but the Pivot Table button is greyed out.

Certain cells are protected, and the Pivot Table button will only display if I Unprotect Sheet, but is there a way to set up a Pivot Table with a protected sheet?

I am using Excel 2007.

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
Hi meridius10,

You can't create a new pivot table on a protected sheet.
You can temporarily unprotect your sheet, create the pivottable, then re-protect your sheet.

If you re-protect the sheet with the option checked to enable "Use PivotTable Reports", it will enable most of the functionality of PivotTables except that you cannot Refresh a PivotTable on a Protected sheet.

OK - thanks for letting me know.

I am guessing that there is a logical reason for all these restrictions!...
