Hi
I have pivot table which has empty cells. I right click on an empty cell --->Pivot table Options-->Format and checked "for empty cells show [ - ]
I entered - but instead of showing - it shows 0
I do not have problem if I entered x for example; only - converted to 0
why is that? Thank you very much

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
Exactly why I am not sure but if it did accept is, it would accept is as text and put it to the far left of the column which would be really ugly.
You are better off letting it return a 0 and then use number format on the field to get a very nicely aligned "-"
(without the quotes)
