I have a pivot table where the field down the left side goes like so:

Quarter
2012_Q1
2012_Q2
2012_Q3
2012_Q4
2013_Q1
2013_Q2
2013_Q3
2013_Q4
2014_Q1
2014_Q2
2014_Q3

I want to calculate the % DifferenceFrom the prior year, same quarter. 2014_Q3 vs 2013_Q3, 2014_Q2 vs 2013_Q2, etc.

If I do a calculated field with % Difference From, other than picking the exact quarter I want to calculate from, Excel only gives me the option of comparing to the prior quarter.

Is there any way to do this within the pivot table so everything will adjust for me when new quarters appear or will I have to set up some formulas outside of the pivot table?

Excel Facts

Test for Multiple Conditions in IF?
Use AND(test, test, test, test) or OR(test, test, test, ...) as the logical_test argument of IF.
You better use dates and then group them to quarters. Afterwards, make %Difference from "Date" => "Previous".
