Pivot Table Sorting with Grouped Dates

I have a date formated field in my pivot table that I've grouped by Months and Days. The Months sort Oldest to Newest, however, the dates do not sort correctly anymore after this grouping. The filed is showing signs of text sorting even though the underlying data and field settings are showing date formatting. Please advise/
