Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts

Hi! I'm taking an online course on Excel, and we're now learning about these things. I have read the textbook and done the exercises, but I'm still confused as to what they do and why. Could someone dumb it down for me please?

I may have more questions as time moves on.

Customize Quick Access Toolbar. From All Commands, add Speak Cells or Speak Cells on Enter to QAT. Select cells. Press Speak Cells.
A PivotTable summarises any list of data. The summary object is very flexible, as you are allowed to change the shape, showing categories in columns or rows or both. Charting for a PivotTable is called a PivotChart.
