Hi,

I have set up a pivot that is based upon the nominal codes. I am trying to create a Pivot that will allow different departments to filter for their P&L.

I have added a slicer, etc to allow for the filter, but i want to be able to group my nominal codes into areas such as staff costs, general expenses, professional fees etc. how can i go about doing this?

Cheers

Chris

Excel Facts

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
I see two options:
1) add a column to your source data that contains the area for each item, possibly via a vlookup to a separate worksheet that lists them.
2) use the Group/Ungroup functionality in the pivottable itself. From your description I think you have Excel 2010 (I think the 'slicer' is only in that version, am I right?), so I cannot guide you where the Group/Ungroup is in 2010. In 2003, you could just select a number of column or row headers in your pivottable, rightclick and choose Group. Afterwards you can rename those groupings to whatever you like.

Cheers for that, i thought it may come down to a lookup but thought there maybe another route.

And yeah it is 2010.
