Excel 97

I have inherited a report that has about 12 pivot table that all feed off of one data sheet that is around the 55000 rows mark.

The problem is that every time it opens it takes forever, due to ‘reading data’ and ‘calculating cells’

I changed the setting to ‘manual’ calculate but this makes no difference.

My next step is to remove the data sheet and store this in Access and update the links but before I did I would be grateful for people opinions on:-

A) why it is ‘reading data’ and ‘calculating cells’ every time it is opened and what can I do about it
B) Is storing the data in Access the best method

Thanks

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
Hi!

My opinion for A) - i think there is a macro behind which refreshs your pivot tables when the worksheet is opened. This would explain why the setting manual doesn't work.

Depends on your reports what you would like to have wheter Access is the best solution or not. Currently I'm improving our company reporting - with Pivot tables and not with Access because we export the data from SAP and it's much easier with Excel...
