Hello My Friends on Message Board,

I am working on a Pivotal table but it did not pick up data from the Excel table. Please help. Thanks.

Background

I have an Excel table with three columns. Column A is invoice numbers for instance and it is comprised of letters and numbers and is set as General in the Cell Format. Column B is amount in US dollars and is reset to Currency after imports from Oracle in Custom format. Column C is customer type, entered in Excel table by Keyboarding such as Tre and GLQ.

The Excel table was set up from three parts, part one from paste and copy from anther Excel table, part 2 and three were paste and copied from Oracle downloads. No blank rows among them.

Sometimes, the Pivotal table did not pick up data from the Excel table. I know that I can not have blank cells in the Excel table and Custom Format for amount in numbers did not work for Pivotal table.

Do you know any other factors which might prevent Pivotal table pick up data? What's the preferred cell format for Column A, B and C?

Many thanks and hearing from you soon.

Best,

Jimmy

So, you data source is the named table then? Have you checked what range area the table covers? ( you could select it by using the name drop-down to the left of the formula bar, or look in defined names - it will be a read-only definition, but you can still see the range in grey - in Excel 2007 )
