I am tryin to add colums of hours and minutes. I am a pilot so I am trying to make a logbook in excel that adds the hours and minutes of each flight. We do not count seconds so I am using the [h]:mm format, which works fine until the total is greater then 24hrs. A that point it starts showing dates(day/month/year, I really dont know why) in the formula bar when the larger hour is highlighted, and the calculations are then messed up.

So to summarize, I sum a colum of hours and minutes that equal 18:56, then add that total to the my overall total of flight time of 1634:22. excel says 18:56 + 1634:22 = 1634:22.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, I have been struggling with this for a long, long time.

I suggest you do use date and time, because many of your times go into the next day.

1/18/2005 11:50:00 AM in E8
formula in cell F8 =ABS(D8-D9)*24

Then you should be able to sum the Column F and it will work fine.

Just add them, and use the following format for the result cell:

[h]:mm

You should see 1653:18
