OK,..this one is killing me!

I have a cell in a worksheet. It contains a formula for dealing with numbers. IT WORKS GREAT!! The formual for dealing with numerical entries is shown below: Again it works.

[<1000000]#,"K";[>=1000000]#,###,,"M";General

I linked that cell to another cell in another worksheet (same workbook)
I linked them by doing this:
Copied Cell 1....(in worksheet1)
Selected "Paste Special" on Cell 2 (in worksheet 2)and selected apply link.

Great, this works! Any data placed in cell 1 is automatically copied into cell2 in worksheet 2.

Problem!
There is a stupid "k" symbol that resides in cell 2 whenever cell 1 is empty.

Cell 1 is nice and blank when it is empty, but again,..Cell 2 has a "k" in it.

I cannot seem to get rid of it no matter what I do!

Oh and the formula is designed to do this just as an FYI:
If the end user types in 100000 the result reads 100K
If they type in 1000000 the result reads 1M.

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying

Try this format:

[>=1000000]#,###,,"M";[>=1000]#,"K";

Numbers less than 1000 won't appear.

Thanks but no -go. Cell2 still has a "k" in it. I think it has something to do with the linking process. If there is a way to tell the cell in cell 2 to stay linked with cell 1, but do NOT denote the fact that cell 1 is empty.

I don't know.

Hi TPD

I've just tried Andrew's solution and it works for me. Have you also updated the format in the cell2 of worksheet2 or does it still have the old format?

Kind regards
PGC

Did you apply that format to cell 2 as well? When you paste a link, the format isn't pasted.
