OK, so i have a column A. This contains a massive list of dates in the following format:

01-Jan-05

How do I get Excel to generate the same results in column B, but without the day part of the date, leaving only the month and year so it looks like this:

Jan-05

All the information is in a uniform fashion, with 2 digits for the day, a dash, three letters for the month, a dash, and then 2 digits for the year.

I know this is basic stuff, but I am crap with excel, so I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks in advance!!

Excel Facts

Last used cell?
Press Ctrl+End to move to what Excel thinks is the last used cell.
You can put a formula in column B "=A1" etc etc

And then format column B to show only the month and year

excellent... cheers for that...

If, for example, I had a similar predicament with something that excel could not automatically format, such as a list of currencies, how would I go about eliminating part of a cell, so in column A if it said:

USD 300

I seperate this data out so that it would be just

300

in Column B
