I'm trying to graph some data from my classroom (I'm a teacher). I need to graph time vs date.

Example
4/1/11 8:30
4/2/11 9:55
4/3/11 8:55

For some reason the dates change to all kinds of weird dates I didn't enter, and of course the time is just a straight line vs the data points (Scatter plot is no better). I've made several other graphs without any troubles. What's happening???

Please help,
Spazzy

Format cells as time
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+2 to format cells as time. (Shift 2 is the @ sign).
What region are you in? Looks like you're entering in m/d/yyyy format. Is this the one your version of Excel recognizes, or is it interpreting 1 April as 4 January?

I'm on the east coast, but I formatted the cells to match that date form.

You said you were plotting dates against times. What are you trying to show?

Are you putting the dates in one column and the times in another.

Bear in mind times in a cell on their own will be fractions, as dates are stored as numbers, the time is a fraction of 1
