Possibly nested IF statement

I'm new in using IF statements. I have a simple one set up to say IF(C1>D1,C1,D1). I want to expound on that farther and say also IF C1=wmc, then D1. I've tried to write it and continue to get error messages. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Please Help!

=IF(OR(C1="wcm",C1<D1),D1,C1)

They are numeric values with the exception of an occasionally WMC acronym.
