Power Query data from "XML (MS Excel)" file type

I'm using SAP BEx Broadcaster to routinely send SAP reports via email (and concurrently adding to team-space). The output format is listed as "XML (MS Excel)" format. It is sent via email attachment with "xls" extension and older style excel icon.

When opened directly from excel (ie 2016) an error prompts "The file format and extension of "filename.xls" don't match." Followed by a warning of corrupt file. Selecting yes to continue and it opens without issue and displays as expected a table with data.

In this native format, I've been unsuccessful in connecting to it to extract data, rather I've been stuck opening, copying and pasting to another excel file. Obviously looking for faster method as the report is generated with fresh data daily.

Note other report output formats are: MHTML, HTML or PDF. Therefore open to any options to use Power Query or similar to automatically connect and refresh.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.
