Hi,

Using Power Query in Excel
I keep getting "Unexpected Error" popup message when I move the cursor toward the front of the formula between = and Date.
Why is that? There is no error with the formula.

Thanks,
-w

Best way to learn Power Query?
Read M is for (Data) Monkey book by Ken Puls and Miguel Escobar. It is the complete guide to Power Query.

You need to define the format as a record.
[Format="yyyyMMdd"] might work, but without excel, so not 100% sure.
Inside the format you may need to use a culture definition. I guess it is using the current one per default.

Thanks GraH,

Seems better after I saved, closed and re-opened a few days later.
I can now edit the formula without the Unexpected Error message:

I ended up with =Number.FromText(Date.ToText([Column1], "yyyyMMdd"))

Thanks,

I had the exact same issue whenever I reopened a step using the Gear icon. The only way I was able to stop the error from popping up was to click into the Formula area. Luckily, it seems to have gone away now.
