Is there a setting to prevent the formula bar from covering up the column headers when the data in a cell is longer than the screen width and it wraps the text onto a second line? When the text wraps this prevents selecting a specific column heading.

thanks,

ds

Excel Facts

How to create a cell-sized chart?
Tiny charts, called Sparklines, were added to Excel 2010. Look for Sparklines on the Insert tab.
You could put a Selection_Change event in your worksheet code, and test to see whether a selected cell's contents will be overly large and bloat the formula bar, and switch off the formula bar while that cell is selected.

hello,

talking about settings
you could lock the formula from viewing and protect your sheet

kind regards,

Hi DS

To select to column you can use CTRL+SPACE.

Anyway when I have a big formula and I want to see the worksheet, I click on the restore button and set the top of the worksheet window below the formula bar. When I leave the cell I just press the max button.

Hope this helps

Thanks everyone,
All nice solutions.
I liked Pgc01's the best, selecting the restore button for simplicity and quick-- which is almost what your workaround link was doing Richard, but not having to display other open worksheets.
I also liked Erick's, it took a minute to remember how to lock/protect since all my work is for my eyes only, and I don't use protection regularly... but this saves a step when working on a file consistently, not having to switch back and forth.

Glenn,
I will try your solution in a little bit. I have to head off to work-- changing gears/hats today- I am painting today, literally wearing a different hat, a painter's cap-- :)

Thanks for everyone's thoughts on the issue-- very much,

Doug
