Hi

I'm using Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2209 Build 16.0.15629.20152) 64-bit

If I have a new workbook with 4 worksheets with some data in them

I select sheet 1, hold SHIFT then click sheet 4 - all 4 sheets are now selected

I go to File > Print > Page Setup > Header/Footer > Custom footer then add &[Page] in the centre block and click OK twice

I can preview the print and it numbers the pages 1 2 3 4 - all good

If I now click page setup again and on the page tab alter the "first page number" from Auto to 5

I should get 5 6 7 8 in the print preview but I don't - I get 5 5 5 5. If it change it back to auto it goes back to 1 2 3 4 but any custom start page and it just replicates the start page on every page

What am I doing wrong???? - thank you

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
replying to myself on the internet (surely a sign of madness) - but for others looking, I have solved it

I had to select just sheet 1 then go to page setup and change auto to 5
then go back and select all sheets
then add in the footer &[Page]

it worked!

I suggest that you update your Account details (or click your user name at the top right of the forum) save having to mention it every time. (Don’t forget to scroll down & ‘Save’)

Glad you sorted it & thanks for letting us know.
