Printing problem - HELP!!

Hi!

I have got a new laptop-computer with a 15" SXGA+ screen
with a resolution on 1400x1050 (Win-XP) therefore I have
increased the screen dpi to 120 (125%). Now when printing
from Excel each line fills more. (each page contains 4
lines less than before (96 dpi on screen))

There is no problem when printing from other programs.

Is there a solution so it do not change size when
printing??

I have tried 3 different printer types with the latest
printerdrivers and tried different printersettings - with
the same result...

There IS a problem!! (an error in Excel??)

The font size on screen has no relationship to the print size. To change that goto File, Print Setup, Sheet tab and click on click on Fit to 1 page and one or however many pages you want to print on. Excel will automatically
reduce the font size so it prints on one page.

There is no problem with the font-size. The letters is excatly the same size as before. There is just more space between each line when printing.

It might be worthwhile checking what paper type it is trying to print to - i've seen similar problems with A4 and Letter sizes incorrectly set.

That is not a solution.

I have noticed, that the size of the row-height is 18,00 = 23 pixels when the DPI is 96. But when the DPI is 120 the row-height 18,00 = 30 pixels. Why?? (Maybe that is the problem, but how do you override that?)

The standard row height using the standard font Arial 10 at 96 dpi (small fonts) is 12.75 points. I haven't tried it because it involves rebooting, but my guess is that by changing to 120 dpi (large fonts) the standard font becomes Arial 14, which has a standard row height of 18 points. 120/96*12.75 is 15.9375, so the 18 is proportionally more. That's why you get less on a page.

Changing the standard font to Arial 12 would give a standard row height of 15. Maybe that would help.

The standard font doesn't change - it is still Times New Roman 11.

Have you changed the Excel standard font from Arial 10 to Times New Roman 11 (Tools|Options|General tab)?

At 96 dpi the standard row height for Times New Roman 11 is 15.

I have some workbook-templates, where I have choosen that size the rows should be 18.

I/we use different computers to print from the same files, so it is importent that it look the same no matter what pc you print from.

In that case you had better change your resolution back to 96 dpi. You are using large fonts while the other users are using small fonts. Your problem seems to arise because of an inherent scaling difference.
