Hi everyone,

I'm having a really weird problem. I have a list of files in a workbook, that are also hyperlinks to other excel workbooks. When I copy, and paste these cells to a different sheet in the same book, everything is fine, but if I open a new workbook, and paste the same cells there, part of the hyperlink gets lost, and when I try to click it, I get the error:
"The address of this site is not valid. Check the address and try again."

What on earth is going on?? any ideas??

Thanks,

Rob

How to show all formulas in Excel?
Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
An example hyperlink is (by pointing to the link):

file:///\\CentralServer\Server E\FileServer\Excel\Save FILES In Here\Year 2006\09-06\Officer\filename.xls

When I copy the link, and create a new workbook, or open a different workbook, then paste, I can't see the link until I save the file. So I save the new file, then the link displays as:

file:///\\CentralServer\Server E\Excel\Save FILES In Here\Year 2006\09-06\Officer\filename.xls

The "FileServer\" portion is no longer there!!! This has happened on another computer also, both with different operating systems!

weird! any ideas?
